Moonbeam

If you think you saw a flying saucer, you're probably in Moonbeam, a quiet but interesting little village just east of Kapuskasing. The flying saucer monument has become the community's symbol, owing to the unique name Moonbeam. But the area is also known for such earthly delights as fishing, camping, hiking and swimming.

The nearby Rene Brunelle Provincial Park at Remi Lake is a popular spot for camping and RV-ing, water skiing, wind surfing and sailing. Anglers can enjoy some fine fishing for walleye and northern pike. There is also a private campground that features a waterslide. Visitors can also enjoy a nice round of golf at the local 9-hole course, or try out the 18-hole miniature golf game. Summer is a time of quiet and relaxation here. But it's fun too. The local arts festival is held in early July and features the work of painters, sculptors and writers. The community is also justifiably proud of its extensive network of nature trails, used by hikers, cyclists, snow-shoers and skiers. The trails are among the best in Northeastern Ontario. If getting away from the hustle and bustle is what you're after, Moonbeam is the place for you. Be sure to stop at the flying saucer tourist office to find out more.
