Matheson

An outdoor lover's delight. That's the best way to describe the 228,855 hectares in the municipality of Black River-Matheson. There are more than 150 lakes and rivers within our friendly confines, full of pike, pickeral, and trout. The bear, moose and waterfowl population make BRM an ideal sportmen's hideaway. The BRM area takes in the communities of Matheson, Ramore, Holtyre, Val Gagne and Shillington.

Our most attractive natural possessions include the nearby wilderness of the Abitibi. Camping, canoeing and hiking enthusiasts will revel in the abundance of things to explore. If you are in the BRM area for a few days or if you're just passing through visit the Historic Watabeag Log Church, use Hough Lake for a tranquil picnic or the Riverpark Park and boat launch.

Spend some time at the Thelma Miles Museum where you'll learn about the pioneers that helped open the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Overnight visitors have plenty of hotels, restaurants and resorts to choose from. As you plan your next visit through the James Bay Frontier plan to include Black River-Matheson in your travels. You'll be glad you did.
