Kirkland Lake

One of the Canada's most famous mining towns, Kirkland Lake first gained fame less than ten years after the big Klondike gold rush. Just as the fortunes were petering out on the Bonanza and Dawson Creeks, word came of fabulous gold discoveries in the wilds of Northern Ontario. Overnight Kirkland Lake became a name associated with gold.

Kirkland Lake has a history that is more than mining. Any hockey fan can tell you the engravings on the Stanley Cup include the names of many Kirkland Lakers who made a huge contribution to the National Hockey League. Like most northern communities, Kirkland Lake is quick to welcome visitors year round. When the snow comes, it comes early and stays long. It's one reason why this town is a popular destination for snowmobilers from across Ontario and the Northern United States.
